2010 Senior Camp Counselors
Louisiana State University (LSU), Baton Rouge, Louisiana - Football
Hometown: Kensington, Maryland
Patrick graduated with a degree in Public Relations and a minor in Business Administration. He was the punter on LSU’s 2007 National Championship football team and was a first team All- Southeast Conference (SEC) selection. Patrick was invited to tryouts and minicamps with the NFL Broncos, Jets and Redskins. He has been a head camp counselor at several camps in the U.S. Patrick volunteers over a 100 hours of service each year to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and children’s hospitals. Patrick also loves anything outdoors, traveling, meeting new people and spending time with family and friends.
University of California, Berkeley - Lacrosse
Hometown: San Francisco
Catie graduates from Cal this spring with a degree in American Studies. She received a lacrosse scholarship to Cal and played all four years. In high school, Catie was a three-sport star athlete in high school. She was the captain and all league selection for her field hockey and lacrosse teams and played basketball as well. Also in high school, she was a two-time All-American in lacrosse. While at Cal, Catie was the director for the Sage Project, a volunteer organization that arranges for college students to mentor 3rd to 5th graders in underprivileged schools, specifically working in Oakland, Ca. She is an experienced camp counselor and coach. She Coached during her four years in college for Cal's high school club team, Bear Lax. Also while at Cal, she was a part of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (Bear SAAC). For fun, aside from playing all sports, she enjoys drawing, scrapbooking and photography.
University of California, Berkeley - Swimming
Hometown: Mission Viejo, California
Richard received a degree in history and was co-captain of Cal’s swim team which place fourth at the NCAA Championships in 2008. Richard was selected to the All American team in 2007 and competed at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 100 meter Breaststroke. Growing up, Richard also played competitive baseball, basketball and water polo. He has coached swimming and baseball and was a lifeguard and first responder during his summers in college. He was a member of the National Honor Society and served as president of his high school’s chapter. His hobbies include running, reading, watching movies, and spending time being active outdoors.
University of California, Davis - Lacrosse
Hometown: Venetia, Pennsylvania
Laura is majoring in International Relations and Human Development and received a scholarship to play lacrosse at U.C Davis. In high school, she was also on the boy’s ice hockey team. Laura was a figure skater through junior high. Laura has been dancing, acting and singing most of her life and was in her high school choir and theatre troupe for four years. Laura’s coaching experience includes coaching middle and high school lacrosse. Laura enjoys spending her time reading a great book or watching an eventful movie, enjoying the outdoors (especially the beach), and spending quality time with friends and family. Laura also enjoys traveling and learning about all of the interesting and beautiful things of the many ethnicities and cultures of the world. Laura’s favorite motto to life is “Smile. It’s Free!” A fun fact about Laura is that the Mondays live next door to her in Pennsylvania and her last name is Sunday. Laura looks forward to traveling to Japan and creating memories with everyone!
University of California, Davis - Basketball
Hometown: Redding, California
Derek graduates this spring with a degree in classical civilization and will be attending the University of Montana School of Law school this fall. As a basketball center, he was the MVP of his league in high school for two years and went on to play center in college. Derek has extensive experience as a camp counselor and coach for kids. He received an award for academic excellence while on the Davis basketball team. In his spare time, Derek plays the guitar and ukulele.
Metro State University - Cheer
Hometown: Arvada, Colorado
Miranda is majoring in nutrition and is a member of the NBA Denver Nuggets Dance team. She is a Dance instructor for the National Dance Alliance (NDA) and travels throughout the U.S. putting on clinics for cheer and dance teams. She was voted the NDA’s top rookie instructor in 2008 and the top veteran instructor in 2009. While she attended Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri her college dance team placed 3rd in Hip Hop at the UDA National Championships. Miranda has been taking dance lessons since she was three years old.
University of California, Davis - Football
Hometown: Sacramento, California
Stephen is returning this summer to SCOA’s camp after being an outstanding junior camp counselor last summer. He is finishing up his freshman year and has not declared a major yet. Stephen played defensive end on his high school football team. He has been playing the cello since the 4th grade and recently took up the electric bass guitar and singing. Stephen is a fill-in radio host and producer for the Bassil and the Fisch Radio Program in Auburn California. He is also an Eagle scout which sure came in handy around the campfire last summer.
University of Kansas - Cheer
Hometown: Lenexa, Kansas
Madison is majoring in Communications with minors in Dance and Business. She has been a National Dance Alliance instructor since 2007 and travels around the U.S. teaching various dance styles to students from 6th grade to college. She has been training in all dance styles since she was four and still assists and choreographs for her local high school dance team. Madison’s college dance team, FLARE won the Hip Hop National Championship in 2010. With her spare time, Madison enjoys baking and scrapbooking and eating cookie dough ice cream. She is also very involved in Rock Chalk Revue, an original musical performance put on by KU’s Sorority and Fraternity members to raise money for United Way.
Western Carolina University - Soccer
Hometown: Catawba, North Carolina
Ryan is an athletic training major in the School of Health Sciences at Western Carolina University. He played soccer in high school and has played football and ultimate Frisbee competitively. Last summer, Ryan had an internship as a trainer for the MLB Pittsburg Pirates minor league team in Florida. Ryan has experience as a camp counselor at a camp for elementary kids. His hobbies include playing Frisbee, drawing, singing, and making people laugh. His ultimate goal in life is help as many people as he can and have a good time in the process.

Amanda graduates this spring with a degree in Kinesiology. She went to LSU on a soccer scholarship where she played all four years. She received the Tiger Award given to the most spirited and best sportsman on the team. One of her many feats was juggling a soccer ball 1,029 times in a row. She has coached soccer to kids from K-12 and comes from a family of nine kids. Amanda did a homestay in Nagoya last summer. Her hobbies and interests include jogging , Frisbee golf, playing video games, reading manga, watching anime and movies and bowling. Amanda speaks Spanish and a little Japanese.
Texas Christian University - Cheer
Hometown: Fort Worth, Texas
Lauren received her degree in Political Science and is planning on attending law school. She is a National Dance Alliance (NDA) instructor for junior high and high school cheer dance teams, teaching hip hop, jazz and pom. In college, she was on the TCU Showgirls dance team, performing at football and other athletic events at the school. In college, she was involved in the Model United Nations team at TCU and recently has worked for the World Affairs Council in Dallas where she is responsible for foreign delegations that come to the Dallas area. She has travelled to China, Ecuador and Europe on exchange programs. In her spare time, Lauren enjoys running, cooking, and spending time with her family, including her twin brother Ryan and miniature Italian greyhounds, Caesar and Gus.

Shibuya High School, Tokyo - Volleyball
Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia
Lina was born and raised in Atlanta and attended school there through the sixth grade before moving to Japan. She played volleyball for her high school team for one year and was in the dance club in middle school, focusing on modern ballet and jazz. She was president of her school’s festival committee and is leader of her school’s volunteers club and peer tutoring club. She also finds time to volunteer year round for the Glocal Gift Network. While living in Atlanta, she went to many American summer camps.
